Sweet & Sour Fish using Malaysian's favourite sauce, Lingham's

To make a delicious sweet & sour (and a little touch of spicyness) fish, you need:
That's right. It's a amusing story that turned out... to become serious really.

I love to eat keropok ikan (fish crackers) with Thai Chili sauce. So one day, while browsing at the sauce shelves in Tesco, I bought Lingam's thai chili sauce. Lingham & Sons, a very original sauce company in Penang, uses only the freshest of chilis around. Trust me, some friends of mine had visited it's factory before to check out production :-). This company has been around since the 1900's - pretty old. Read the history here - it's very interesting!

Then one day, mum was preparing to cook her usual Sweet & Sour Fish. As she was rushing, she mistakenly poured Lingam's sauce instead of the normal tomato sauce. And she did not told anyone...

I was having lunch, enjoying the fish and I told everyone - mum's sweet & sour is different today, it tastes very nice..

Mum over heard me and thought that I said the fish was not nice. I told her, her cooking was different and very nice and then only... she told us that she accidentally used Lingam's instead for the sweet & sour sauce...

Since then, she used a little bit of the new ingredient in her sweet & sour fish. I like it very much really. It just adds that spicy kick that's been missing all this while!

So whoever said if you screw up the ingredient, you're dead? It is always good to continuously try (or accidentally try :-) new ingredients in cooking!

What would make my kitchen and food rock?

Being a Foodie, I'm always on the lookout for pretty looking plates, dishes and the sort. In the regular supermarket, IKEA and even online I'll be searching, looking and browsing for crockery and shiny cooking utensils! Recently I came across a great one stop shop for F&B shopping – Lionsdeal.

Although it caters mostly for restaurant and kitchen supplies, there's so many items on the site that would be great for my own personal use. Especially for you bargain hunters out there, Lionsdeal has a 110% price match guarantee and free shipping for orders over $195 on over 50,000 products! I really got excited looking at soo many (seriously, so so so many) products, choices, colours, shapes and sizes… I feel like ordering a little bit of everything! Perhaps I will do just that when I move in to my new apartment in about 2 months' time!

Some of my favourite items on the site:

Onion Soup Croc for $31.48 per box of 24

Glacier Collection Platter for $23.54 per piece

Deliss Sundae Dish for $32.11 per box of 6

Plate, from woven wood for $1.66 per piece

Soup/Rice Bowl for $58.10 per box of 12

If you frequently organize parties, check out their chafer supplies cos they are very interesting. I think having 3-4 chafers at home is a good idea – to keep foods like stir fried veges, curries, fried noodles and rice warm for the entire party! Which reminds me, I need to plan a couple of parties of my own once I move into my new place with my husband.

There's plenty more to see at Lionsdeal so mosey on over there and sign up to get kitchen equipment discounts and more! Feel free to use the coupon code "online10" for a 9-10% discount on your purchases :-)

Wedding Dinner at Hydro Majestic Hotel, Penang

Last week, I had the greatest time attending one of our very good friend's wedding at the Hydro Majestic Hotel. It was a beautiful and lively night - the Crystal Ballroom was really beautiful - I absolutely loved the decorations, the ambience was perfect!Looking back at the pictures, I am so thirsty - the orange juice just seems such a thirst quencher to me right now (despite the slight sore throat I'm feeling...). Much as I did took all the food pictures, I guess only one or two I shall share in here. The rest were too bleargh due to bad lightling. Only had my PNS cam with me on that day... The menu was delicious. A mix of Chinese and Punjabi food as you can see. They were all absolutely delicious, to my surprise as I did not expected the food to be that nice for a 3 star hotel. Boy was I wrong. It tasted better than some star hotel food! It's no wonder why this lovely couple chose this hotel to have their wedding dinner.
The wedding favour was this sweet Indian dessert "laddu". Do you like Laddu? It's really sweet and nice :-)
The starter was cool. I liked it a lot. They had spicy mango salad, deep fried chicken, spring rolls, and some sort of seafood sausage which is delicious. The lights - these crystal balls that hang all over the hall was beautiful. So romantic... Guests entertained with Hindi songs, bhangra, and it lasted till the early hours in the morning... Fun & beautiful nite. Congratulations to the couple! :-)
