With my new job, I get to get out of office in time or dinner. So my guy, F, has made a standing date with me every Friday night. He's so happy I could have dinner with him nowadays, as compared to the previous lame response of "You go ahead sweets, I can't make it, I still have lots to do, maybe I'll catch up with you about 10pm". Now, by 3pm I would have asked him where and what's for dinner! :-) I like this.
We promised to meet up at Queensbay Mall for dinner. I felt like pasta today. Pasta is my favourite dinner food, really. Since dinner was on me, I get to decide. hehehehe...
It was about 7pm. We went over to Pastasia, there were just about 3-4 other tables occupied at that time, so, I liked it. Less crowd, quiet dinner. My style... Of course if it was my own restaurant, I'd be wishing otherwise!
One thing I dislike about Queensbay Mall is their arrangement of shop lots. F&B outlets are scattered here n there, and it's hard to find them. I would have arranged so that all the F&B outlets are on the ground floor, so that all of them can have al-fresco areas and, people would enjoy just hanging out and eating... and it is much easier to just "shop" around for food - you know... just walk around on the same floor, see what you like, and just walk in, rather than walking thru the entire big mall, get tired, and decide to just eat at the closest restaurant cos you're too hungry or tired to walk again.
Then again, I guess it's because of the shop lots are sold/rented in a way that the F&B outlets are all separated in various parts of the mall.
Back to food. (My apologies...)
Pastasia is located on the ground floor, opposite Jusco and Padini Outlet. It is just next to the escalators. I chose to sit somewhere far from the escalator - just hate the fact people from up the escalators looking down at my food....
We ordered an entre dish, 2 main course meals, and drinks. Deciding what's for diner was not difficult when you're hungry...
We had the deep fried Mozzarella Balls which came in 4 cute balls over a bed of salad, with a tomato-ish dipping sauce. Frankly, the balls were pale, softish and not warm enough... felt like it was prepared like 3 hours ago... And way too oily. Mozzarella being the cheese that everybody loves, it tasted of nothing more than Mozzarella.
I loved my main dish. It was pasta with chicken & eggplant in a creamy tomato sauce. Even F loved it. It tasted really nice, with black peppers, onions, garlic, and sweet basil leaves. I wouldn't mind having a second one, but I was full already...
F had the baked chicken which came on top of some baked potato wedges, some steamed vege like long green beans, broccoli, carrots.. and topped with some gravy. It was ok, we finished it, and F devoured some of my pasta as well.
I remember they had more variety of pasta on their menu as compared to yesterday's menu. Very fusion. Asian and Italian flavours combined. Anyone think so? Their pasta dishes are not bad and I would love to have some more again sometimes. Service was good and the people were nice. The decoration was simple yet nice & I would regard it as a nice dining place. If only it is further away from the escalators... anyways.
I did not had my camera with me, so I missed the chance of taking beautiful pictures of the lovely dishes we had... :-( Any suggestion of what's for dinner tonight - around Penang?? ;-)

well, you can try Pastamania @ Gurney Plaza :-) Pastasia's closure came as surprised to me as well. Actually, I don't fancy their food much besides the price. After all the newspaper coverage, they closed down??? It's really weird right?
Mei Yi, the owners most of the time at Gurney Plaza. I won't be surprise if the staffs behaved like that.
